Further tests on Lopez' leg have revealed a torn right hamstring, an injury that will force the infielder to miss the rest of the 2005 campaign. The Reds' veteran, who was hurt while sliding into second base in the fourth inning of Sunday's meeting with the Atlanta Braves, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Monday. Surgery has been scheduled for early next month.

Lopez has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Cincinnati Reds. The infielder will be sidelined indefinitely after straining his right hamstring while sliding into second base in the fourth inning of Sunday's meeting with the Atlanta Braves. William Bergolla will be recalled from the club's Triple-A affiliate to fill the void on the roster.

After designating second baseman D'Angelo Jimenez for assignment on Friday, the Cincinnati Reds recalled Lopez from Triple-A Louisville. The 35-year-old veteran hit .264 with one homer and nine RBI in 29 games at Louisville, where he started 23 games at shortstop and two at second base. He previously played for San Diego, the Mets, Milwaukee and Baltimore. Lopez is a lifetime .241 hitter with a career OBP of .294.
