Steve Trachsel

11/1/2005

Trachsel will return to the Mets for 2006 after the team exercised its $2.5 million option on the veteran righthander, who was celebrating his 35th birthday yesterday.

On Tuesday, the Mets activated Trachsel from the 60-day disabled list. The veteran righthander has been sidelined all season since undergoing surgery in March to repair a herniated disc in his back. Trachsel, who is scheduled to take the mound against the San Francisco Giants on Friday, said that his recovery is complete, and that he feels ready to pitch. Reliever Danny Graves was designated for assignment to make room on the roster.

Trachsel is ready to rejoin the New York Mets' starting rotation, but he will make one more start for Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday before being activated from the 60-day disabled list. The veteran righthander has been sidelined all season with a herniated disc in his lower back.

Trachsel reported no major problems after tossing about 40 pitches in a simulated game on Saturday. The Mets' veteran righthander, who has been sidelined since undergoing surgery in early March to repair a herniated disc in his back, should go on a minor league rehab assignment in the near future.
