J.T. Snow

6/28/2006

Snow was released by the Red Sox on Tuesday, eight days after he was designated for assignment by the team. The backup first baseman was hitting .205 with no homers and four RBIs in 44 at-bats this season. He had appeared in 38 games.

6/19/2006

Snow was designated for assignment on Monday. The Red Sox first baseman is batting .205 with no home runs and four RBIs in only 44 at-bats in 38 games this season.

9/20/2005

Snow's ailing hamstring, which he injured a week ago running out a base hit, is likely to keep the San Francisco first baseman on the sidelines for the remainder of the season. Pedro Feliz and Lance Niekro have been covering first base in Snow's absence.

7/25/2005

Snow was absent from the Giants' lineup in Sunday's meeting with the Florida Marlins after leaving the team's previous game with a sore lower back. The veteran first baseman, who was replaced by Lance Niekro, said the injury is minor, and he doesn't expect to miss much time. He is listed as day-to-day.

6/16/2005

Snow took a Kyle Lohse pitch off the knee during the first inning of San Francisco's 8-4 win over Minnesota on Wednesday. The Giants' first baseman left the game an inning later and was replaced by Pedro Feliz. Snow will undergo X-rays Thursday if the pain persists.

5/16/2005

Snow saw his first action in more than a week, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout in Sunday's loss to the Houston Astros. The Giants' first baseman had been sidelined with a stomach virus, but should be fine going forward. Lance Niekro filled in during his absence.

In 26 games this season, Snow is batting .299 with one home run, seven RBI and one stolen base. He should post a solid average, but his power numbers normally aren't up to the standards of most corner infielders in the major leagues.

5/11/2005

Snow was expected to be back in the Giants' lineup by now, but he was absent again on Wednesday, missing his fourth consecutive game. The veteran first baseman, who is batting a stomach virus, was replaced by Lance Niekro.

Snow should be back on Thursday. In 25 games this season, he is batting .311 with one home run, seven RBI and a stolen base.

5/10/2005

Snow has been absent from the Giants' lineup the past two days, due to a bout with a stomach virus. The first baseman, who was replaced by Lance Niekro, continues to be listed as day-to-day, but shouldn't miss much more time.

In 25 games this season, Snow is batting .311 with one home run, seven RBI and a stolen base. Expect him to return Tuesday or Wednesday.

4/27/2005

Snow helped lead the Giants' to a 6-5 victory in Tuesday's game against the San Diego Padres, notching four hits in five at-bats, including two doubles and a triple. The first baseman, who finished a homer shy of hitting or the cycle, is 8-for-14 with five RBI over his last three games.

Snow appears to be fully recovered from the groin injury that forced him to miss some time last week. For the season, he is batting .365 with six RBI and a stolen base in 18 games, but has yet to hit a home run.

4/23/2005

Snow returned to San Francisco's lineup on Friday after missing the previous three games with a strained groin.

4/22/2005

Snow was able to take batting practice, field grounders and run the bases prior to Thursday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but was held out of the starting lineup for the third consecutive day, due to continued discomfort in his strained groin. The first baseman suffered the injury while fielding a grounder in the second inning of Monday's contest, but remained in the lineup until being lifted for Lance Niekro in the fifth. He is listed as day-to-day.

Snow, who was able to pinch-hit late in Thursday's game, said a trip to the 15-day disabled list will not be needed. If Niekro is sent to the minors this weekend to open a spot on the roster for outfielder Moises Alou, Pedro Feliz likely will be asked to handle the first-base duties until Snow is back in action.

4/20/2005

Snow was held out of Tuesday's game against the San Diego Padres, and he'll likely miss at least another day or two, due to a strained groin. The veteran first baseman suffered the injury while fielding a grounder in the second inning of Monday's contest, but remained in the lineup until being lifted for Lance Niekro in the fifth. Officially, he is listed as day-to-day.

Until Snow can return, Niekro is expected to handle the first-base duties for the Giants. Through 12 games this season, Snow is batting .333 with two RBI. All of his hits have been singles.

4/19/2005

Snow was forced to leave in the fifth inning of Monday's game against the San Diego Padres after straining his groin. The first baseman, who suffered the injury while fielding a grounder in the second, was replaced in the Giants' lineup by rookie Lance Niekro. He will be re-evaluated on Tuesday to determine his status.

For now, Snow has been listed as day-to-day. Through 12 games this season, he is batting .333 with two RBI. All of his hits have been singles.
