3/7/2006

Flaherty retired Tuesday after a 14-year career. The veteran catcher, who signed with Boston in December after spending the last three seasons with the Yankees, batted .165 with two homers and 11 RBIs in 47 games with New York in 2005. Flaherty was a .252 lifetime hitter who collected 80 homers and 395 RBIs in 1,047 games.

12/22/2005

Flaherty has agreed to a one-year, $650,000 contract with the Boston Red Sox. The 38-year-old catcher, who could earn another $100,000 if he is on the team's Opening Day roster next season, spent the 2005 campaign with the New York Yankees, batting just .165 with two home runs and 11 RBIs in 47 games.
