David Weathers

6/14/2006

Weathers may be available for the Reds on Friday after throwing on Wednesday for the first time since leaving Sunday's 9-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs with right shoulder tendinitis.

On Tuesday, Weathers had surgery to repair a small tear in his right knee. The Reds' right-hander is expected to recover in four weeks. He was 7-4 with 15 saves and a 3.94 ERA in 73 relief appearances last season.

Weathers strained his lower back on a pitch that resulted in an Aramis Ramirez home run in Tuesday's loss to the Chicago Cubs, and he was forced to leave the game shortly thereafter. The Reds' veteran righthander will be re-evaluated on Wednesday to determine his status.

With Danny Graves being designated for assignment earlier this week, the Reds have turned to Weathers to close the team's last two contests. The veteran righthander struck out two and notched the save in Monday's victory over the Nationals, but blew the save by allowing a walk and a hit in Tuesday's action.
