After filling in for the ailing A.J. Burnett by making a spot start against the New York Mets on Thursday, Castillo has been designated for assignment by the Florida Marlins. The veteran righthander, who was making his first start in nearly three years, allowed five runs on four hits in 4.1 innings of work. Travis Smith has been recalled to fill the void on the roster.

The Florida Marlins have purchased Castillo's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque and will send the veteran righthander to the mound against the New York Mets on Thursday. Castillo, who was 5-2 with a 3.79 ERA with the minor league club this season, is making a spot start for the ailing A.J. Burnett. Outfielder Chris Aguila was optioned to Albuquerque to create room on the roster.
