Luis Gonzalez

Gonzalez stroked an RBI double off the wall at Chase Field Tuesday night in Arizona's 7-4 win over San Francisco. With the sixth-inning two-bagger, the Diamondbacks' left fielder became the 21st player in major league history with 300 home runs and 500 doubles. He has 320 career home runs.

Gonzalez notched his third multihomer game of the 2005 campaign, going deep twice in Thursday's victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Diamondbacks' veteran outfielder connected for solo shots in both the third and ninth innings. Over his last four games, Gonzalez is 7-for-17 (.412) with a double, three home runs and four RBI.

Gonzalez returned to the Diamondbacks' lineup for Wednesday night's meeting with the San Francisco Giants, going 0-for-4 in the 4-2 loss. The veteran outfielder was activated from bereavement list earlier in the day after missing some time to attend the funeral of his stepfather. Infielder Matt Kata was optioned to the minors to open a spot on the roster.

Gonzalez is expected to rejoin the Diamondbacks Wednesday or Thursday, according to manager Bob Melvin. The outfielder was placed on bereavement leave over the weekend after the death of his stepfather. He attended the funeral on Tuesday.

Gonzalez has been placed on the bereavement list by the Arizona Diamondbacks after the death of his stepfather. The outfielder is expected to be out of action until at least the middle of the week. Chad Tracy got the starting nod on Sunday, but the club also will look to Scott Hairston and/or Quinton McCracken to fill the void in the outfield during Gonzalez' absence.

With a solo shot off reliever Rheal Cormier in the eighth inning of Sunday's loss to the Philadelphia Phillies, Gonzalez notched the 300th home run of his major league career. It was the eighth of the 2005 campaign for the Diamondbacks' slugger, who has belted a homer in each of his last two games.

Gonzalez helped lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to their first win of the 2005 campaign, going 2-for-3 with two home runs, three RBI and a walk in Tuesday's 5-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs. The veteran outfielder was 1-for-4 with an RBI in Monday's season opener.

Gonzalez has reported no major problems with his surgically repaired right elbow this spring, so the Diamondbacks expect him to man left field on a daily basis. Limited to just 105 games last season, he batted .259 with 17 home runs and 48 RBI. In his first five seasons with Arizona, Gonzalez averaged 33.6 homers and 114.8 RBI per year.
