Carlos Baerga

6/10/2005

Baerga has been getting some starts at second base late in the week, as Jamey Carroll has been nursing a sore left ankle. While Carroll said he'll be ready to play against Seattle this weekend, Washington manager Frank Robinson said his starting baseman may be out of action for a few days.

Baerga, who was assigned to minor league camp last week, will have his contract purchased by the Washington Nationals, filling the roster spot of the injured Wil Cordero. He is expected to join the club within the next day or two. Baerga hit .235 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 79 games for Arizona last season.

For his career, Baerga has batted .292 with 132 homers and 755 RBI in 1,537 games. He will serve as a backup with the Nationals.
