Kent Mercker


Mercker will need reconstructive surgery on his left elbow. Mercker has a torn ligament and tendon in the elbow. The Reds transferred Mercker to the 60-day disabled list Wednesday.


Mercker was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday to left elbow inflammation. This is the 38-year-old left-handed reliever's third trip to the disabled list with the injury. The Reds recalled Chris Michalak from Triple-A Louisville to take his spot on the roster.
