Ken Griffey Jr.

7/23/2006

Griffey singled in each of his last two at-bats Sunday. He's 6-for-36 (.167) since the All-Star break with one homer.

7/20/2006

Griffey was out of the Reds' lineup Thursday, getting a day off after the night game that ended after midnight.

6/28/2006

Griffey hit his 550th career homer in Tuesday's 9-8 loss to Kansas City, his second in as many games. It was Griffey's 152nd home run as a Reds player, tying Pete Rose and Joe Morgan for 12th place on the franchise list. The Reds' center fielder took sole possession of 11th place on the major league career list on Sunday with his 549th homer, and now trails Reggie Jackson by 14.

6/26/2006

Griffey hit his 549th career homer in Cincinnati's 4-2 win over Cleveland on Sunday to move into sole possession of 11th place on the career list. The Reds' center fielder, who has 13 home runs on the season, broke a tie with Mike Schmidt and now trails Reggie Jackson by 14.

6/20/2006

Griffey hit his 548th career homer in the Reds' 4-2 victory over the Mets on Monday night, tying him with Mike Schmidt for 11th place on the all-time list. The homer also gave Griffey and his dad, Ken Sr., 700 career homers combined.

5/21/2006

Griffey hit his 15th career grand slam in the Reds' 7-6 10-inning loss to the Tigers on Saturday night.

5/12/2006

Griffey returned to the Reds' lineup in grand style Thursday, making a diving catch early in the game and securing Cincinnati's 5-4 win with a three-run homer in the 11th inning. The Reds had fallen behind 4-1 when Washington scored three runs in the top of the 11th, but an RBI single by Felipe Lopez and Griffey's home run off Washington's Joey Eischen sparked the remarkable comeback.

5/11/2006

The Reds' Web site is reporting that Griffey has been activated from the 15-day disabled list and will bat third in the lineup Thursday against the Washington Nationals. To make room for Griffey, Cincinnati optioned Chris Denorfia to Triple-A Louisville.

5/2/2006

Griffey will stay in Cincinnati when the Reds travel to Colorado for a two-game series that begins on Wednesday. While the Reds' center fielder is eligible to come off the disabled list, he isn't ready to return from an inflamed tendon behind his right knee. "There hasn't been a setback," manager Jerry Narron said. "He just hasn't gotten to the point where he feels like he can play."

4/28/2006

Griffey is eligible to come off the disabled list Friday, but he won't be activated after taking batting practice and shagging flies in the outfield earlier in the day. The Reds' center fielder didn't feel an inflamed tendon behind his right knee was back to full strength.

4/18/2006

The Cincinnati Reds put Griffey on the 15-day disabled list Monday night following their 9-1 victory over the Florida Marlins. The Reds' center fielder has been bothered by stiffness in his right knee, caused by an inflamed tendon. The injury, which is not considered serious, has forced him to miss the last five games.

4/17/2006

Stiffness in his right knee will keep Griffey out of the Cincinnati lineup against Florida on Monday. The Reds' center fielder will miss his fifth straight game. He ran on a treadmill for 12 minutes earlier in the day and said the leg felt better, but it still tightens up on him.

4/14/2006

Griffey missed his second straight start due to stiffness in his right knee on Friday. The center fielder and manager Jerry Narron were hopeful he would play Saturday against the Cardinals.

4/12/2006

Griffey left Wednesday's game against the Chicago Cubs in the fourth inning because of stiffness in the back of his right knee. The Cincinnati center fielder said the injury isn't serious, but he doesn't know if he will be able to play Thursday in the series finale at Wrigley Field.

4/5/2006

Griffey hit a solo homer Wednesday in Cincinnati's 8-6 victory over the Chicago Cubs. The homer was the 537th of Griffey's career, moving him past Mickey Mantle into 12th place among the all-time leaders. It also gave Griffey 1,538 career RBIs, breaking his tie with Joe DiMaggio for 31st on the career list.

9/26/2005

Griffey underwent a pair of arthroscopic procedures to clean out both his left knee and the scar tissue surrounding his right hamstring on Monday. The Reds' center fielder is expected to be fully recovered from his surgeries in four weeks.

9/22/2005

Griffey will have surgery on his left knee and right hamstring Monday. The procedures mark the end of a stellar comeback season in which the Reds' center fielder batted .301 with 35 home runs and 92 RBI in 128 games.

9/21/2005

Griffey remains doubtful to play again in 2005 after having his right foot examined on Tuesday. There is lingering soreness where the ligament attaches to the bone, and it's likely that the discomfort will keep the Reds' center fielder from returning to action later in September.

9/15/2005

Griffey will spend Thursday's off day in Orlando, visiting the same physical therapist with whom he worked two years ago when he tore a tendon in his right foot. The Reds' star partially tore the same tendon in his right foot on September 4.

9/7/2005

While the official word is that Griffey strained a tendon in his right foot on Sunday, the Dayton Daily News is reporting that an unnamed source says the Reds' center fielder has suffered a more serious injury. Reportedly the source says Griffey has pulled part of a tendon off the bone, which could lead to season-ending surgery.

9/6/2005

Griffey probably won't play until Friday because of the tendon in his right foot that he strained on Sunday. He tested the foot on Tuesday and was able to run, but cutting and stopping were problematic. The Reds plan to rest him on Tuesday and Wednesday before Thursday's off day, giving the center fielder three more days to heal.

9/5/2005

Griffey strained a tendon in his right foot rounding second in the 12th inning on Sunday and is day-to-day. It was a good day for the Reds' center fielder before suffering the injury, as he went 2-for-5 with a home run. His solo shot in the first inning was the 536th of his career and ties him with Mickey Mantle for 12th place all-time.

8/27/2005

Ken Griffey Jr. has played in 41 of the Reds' last 43 victories. In those games, Griffey is batting .368 (60-for-163), with 20 homers, 49 RBI and 50 runs scored. His next home run will tie Jimmie Foxx (534) for 13th place on the all-time home-run list.

8/25/2005

Griffey extended his current hitting streak to 11 games, going 3-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Thursday's victory over the Washington Nationals. The Reds' veteran outfielder has been on fire over that span, notching seven multihit games. In 46 at-bats, he has 21 hits (.457), including five home runs and a double.

8/17/2005

Griffey continued to swing a hot bat in Tuesday's loss to the San Francisco Giants, homering for the third consecutive game. Over that span, the Reds' veteran outfielder has three multihit performances, going 8-for-13 (.615) with a walk and four RBI. He has 14 home runs since July 1 (39 games).

7/18/2005

Griffey homered for the third consecutive game, going 1-for-1 with three walks and two runs scored in Sunday's victory over the Colorado Rockies. The veteran center fielder has avoided the injuries that have plagued him since joining the Reds and quietly has posted some impressive totals this season. In 86 games, he is batting .290 with 20 home runs and 61 RBI.

7/1/2005

Although not yet fully recovered from the flu bug that knocked him out the previous two games, Griffey was back in the Reds' lineup for Thursday's meeting the the Houston Astros. The veteran slugger went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a strikeout in his return.

6/29/2005

Battling the flu, Griffey was unavailable for Tuesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The veteran outfielder, who was replaced in the Reds' lineup by Jason Romano, has been listed as day-to-day. He will be re-evaluated on Wednesday to determine his availability.

6/20/2005

Griffey's three-run homer in the eighth inning Sunday not only ended a six-game Cincinnati losing streak, it also pushed the Reds' center fielder into 16th place on the all-time home-run leader board. The 35-year-old Griffey secured an 11-8 Reds win over Atlanta with the 513th homer of his career.

5/25/2005

After failing to record a hit in his previous 16 at-bats, Griffey got back on track in Wednesday's meeting with the Washington Nationals, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored. The veteran slugger, who moved up to third in the Reds' batting order for the first time this season, is batting .253 with six home runs and 27 RBI in 44 games in 2005.

5/13/2005

Griffey's hot hitting continued in Thursday's victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, as the veteran outfielder went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored. Since seeing his batting average dip to a season-low .200 on April 23, Griffey has been on a tear, raising his average to .283. He has hit safely in 15 of his last 16 games, batting .354 with seven doubles, four home runs and 14 RBI.

It took Griffey 79 at-bats to record his first home run of this year, which was his longest-ever drought to open a season. But it now appears that he is dialed in, so as long as he can avoid injury, Griffey is a solid start on your fantasy squad.

5/9/2005

Griffey connected for a solo homer in the fourth inning of Sunday's loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, extending his current hitting streak to 12 games. Over that span, the Reds' veteran outfielder is 15-for-48 (.313) with five doubles, three home runs and 11 RBI.

Before going on his recent tear, Griffey saw his batting average drop to a season-low .200. It also took him 79 at-bats to record his first home run of this year, which was his longest-ever drought to open a season. As long as he can avoid injury, Griffey is a solid start on your fantasy squad, especially if he continues to produce on a consistent basis.

4/30/2005

Griffey hit his first home run of the 2005 campaign on Saturday. He had not homered in his first 79 at-bats this season, which was his longest-ever drought to open a season.

For the year, Griffey is batting .244 with seven doubles, nine RBI and seven runs scored in 22 games. He's struck out 22 times in 82 at-bats.

4/7/2005

Showers prior to Thursday's game against the New York Mets resulted in a wet outfield, so the Cincinnati Reds decided to go the cautious route and hold Griffey out of the lineup, avoiding an aggravation of his hamstring injury. The veteran center fielder was replaced by Wily Mo Pena, and he should be back in action on Friday at Houston.

Injuries have limited Griffey to 206 (of a possible 486) games over the last three seasons combined, so it is understandable that the Reds don't want to take any chances early in the current campaign. Through two contests this year, he is 4-for-7 with a double, two walks and two RBI.
