Kenny Rogers

7/10/2006

Rogers was chosen as the AL starter for Tuesday's All-Star game. He is the first Tiger chosen to start an All-Star game since Jack Morris in 1985. Rogers is 11-3 with a 3.85 ERA this season for Detroit, which has the best record in the majors.

7/3/2006

Detroit's Rogers was selected to his fourth All-Star team on Sunday as a starting pitcher for the American League. Rogers is 10-3 with a 3.72 ERA this season.

8/11/2005

Rogers, who was rushed back into the Texas rotation Wednesday after having his suspension reduced by seven games, was roughed up for five fourth-inning runs in his first start since July 26. The Rangers' lefthander allowed five runs over five frames to the Red Sox, the most runs he's given up in a start since June 22, and he absorbed the loss in a 16-5 rout.

8/9/2005

Arbitrator Shyam Das ruled to cut short Rogers' suspension to 13 games, making Rogers available to start Wednesday at Boston. He last pitched on July 26, going seven innings and getting no decision in a loss to the Orioles.

7/30/2005

Rogers began serving his suspension this week, and it won't be until August 8 that the Texas lefthander will have his grievance heard by an arbiter. By then, Rogers will be nearly a dozen games into his 20-game suspension, so it appears he won't be pitching for the Rangers anytime soon.

7/27/2005

Rogers' appeal of his 20-game suspension was denied Wednesday, and Commissioner Bud Selig has ordered that the Rangers' lefthander begin serving his punishment immediately.

7/19/2005

Rogers verbally confronted a cameraman for Dallas-Fort Worth television station WFAA as he was booked into the county jail Monday on misdemeanor assault charges stemming from an earlier tirade against two cameramen. The exchange was caught on tape, and shows the Rangers' lefty saying, "You're getting really close, you know that? Do you hear me?" After the cameraman replies that he's just doing his job, Rogers responds: Yeah. Your job. That's just your excuse."

7/18/2005

Rogers turned himself in to authorities Monday on misdemeanor assault charges stemming from his tirade against two cameramen on June 29. The Rangers' lefthander faces a charge of assault with injury for shoving KDFW cameraman Larry Rodriguez. An assault citation also will be mailed to Rogers' attorney for shoving FOX Sports Net Southwest cameraman David Mammeli, although FOX Sports has declined to press criminal charges.

7/16/2005

Rogers' hearing on his appeal of his 20-game suspension for shoving two cameramen is scheduled for next Thursday.

Rogers' hearing on his appeal of his 20-game suspension for shoving two cameramen is scheduled for next Friday.

Rogers will take part in this week's All-Star game, despite his recent problems. The Rangers' 40-year-old pitcher was suspended for 20 games and fined an undisclosed amount of cash for his physical confrontations Wednesday with two cameramen at Ameriquest Field in Arlington. Since he appealed the penalty, Rogers has continued to pitch for Texas.

Rogers was suspended for 20 games and fined an undisclosed amount of cash for his physical confrontations Wednesday with two cameramen at Ameriquest Field in Arlington. The Texas southpaw will have plenty of time to cool down and have that broken finger heal from his recent assault of a water cooler.

6/30/2005

While Rogers probably will avoid the disabled list and miss only Tuesday's start because of his broken right pinkie, the Rangers' lefthander could be looking at a suspension for his confrontation with two cameramen at his home park Wednesday. Before the Rangers hosted the Angels, Rogers shoved two cameramen and wrestled a camera from one of them. He kicked the camera after it landed on the ground.

6/29/2005

As anticipated, Rogers missed his scheduled start on Tuesday, due to a broken bone at the base of the pinkie finger on his right (non-pitching) hand. However, the Rangers are confident that the veteran lefthander will be ready to return to the mound for his next turn in the rotation -- this weekend against the Seattle Seahawks. Rogers was injured after departing his last home start on June 17, when he struck a water cooler in the dugout out of frustration.

6/6/2005

Rogers won his eighth straight start on Sunday, limiting the Royals to five hits and one run over seven innings. It's the third straight start the Texas lefthander has worked seven frames and allowed a single run. Sunday's win, which pushes Rogers' record to 8-2 with a major league-best 1.62 ERA, also marked his ninth straight quality start.

6/1/2005

In an 8-2 Texas win on Tuesday, Rogers registered his seventh straight win and eighth straight quality start. The 40-year-old lefthander made it seven wins in seven outings Tuesday, limiting Detroit to three hits, a walk and a single run over seven frames while striking out six. Those seven wins without a loss date back to April 27, and his six victories in May set a team record for that month.

5/27/2005

Rogers won his sixth straight start on Thursday, working seven innings and allowing a single run in the Rangers' 8-1 win over Kansas City. The Texas lefthander also extended his streak of quality starts to seven. He now is 6-2 with an American League-leading 1.69 ERA.

5/15/2005

Rogers extended his consecutive scoreless-innings streak to 30 innings on Saturday when he shut out the Twins. Rogers' offense gave him five runs to work with, highlighted by a four-run fifth inning. That proved to be more than enough as Rogers cruised, striking out two while walking none, and giving up only six hits in a complete-game victory. Rogers threw only 104 pitches to bring his season record to 4-2 with a 1.49 ERA.

Who knows how much longer the 40-year-old veteran can continue, but as long as he's rolling along, keep riding his impressive numbers.

5/9/2005

Rogers turned in his third straight scoreless outing for the Texas Rangers Sunday -- an eventual 7-2 victory over Cleveland -- and the 40-year-old lefthander now has worked 21 consecutive scoreless innings. Rogers scattered six hits, struck out four and walked four while winning his third straight start. He has the longest shutout streak by a Rangers starter since setting the club record of 39 consecutive scoreless innings in 1995.

Rogers also has blanked Seattle and Oakland during his scoreless run. For the season, the southpaw is 3-2 in seven starts, with an American League-leading 1.79 ERA.

4/8/2005

Barring any setbacks, Rogers is expected to be ready for his next start -- a meeting with the Los Angeles Angels on Monday. The Rangers' veteran lefthander suffered a minor cut and blister on his pitching hand when he tried to stop a grounder in Wednesday's game. He will be re-evaluated after a bullpen session on Saturday to determine his status and availability.

Rogers did not figure into the decision, but he was solid in his first outing of the 2005 campaign, allowing just one run on five hits in six innings. Last year, he was 18-9 with a 4.76 ERA and two complete games in 35 starts.
