Jamie Moyer

5/12/2005

Moyer's poor 2004 seemed to be a distant memory when the 42-year-old lefthander strung together three quality starts en route to being the American League's first four-game winner on April 24. In three starts since then, the Seattle veteran hasn't lasted four innings or allowed fewer than five runs against Oakland, Boston and New York.

Moyer's ERA has jumped from 2.53 to 5.53 over those three starts, and perhaps any improvement over his 2004 performance will be marginal, if he improves at all. That's a more reasonable expectation than looking for a complete turnaround from a 42-year-old athlete.

4/25/2005

After a rough year in 2004, Moyer is the first American League pitcher to garner four wins in 2005. The Mariners' lefthander bumped his record to 4-0 Sunday by limiting Cleveland to a run on six hits over eight innings. He has posted quality starts in his last three outings, and has three wins to show for them. For the year, Moyer has a 2.53 ERA and a .250 opponent batting average.

Last season, Moyer was 7-13 with a 5.21 ERA and .272 OBA.
