Ryan Ludwick

6/3/2005

Ludwick cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo by the Cleveland Indians on Friday. He'll be able to get some at-bats and get himself in a better position to help the Indians later in the summer. The 26-year-old outfielder was 9-for-41 (.220) with four homers in just 19 games with Cleveland this season.

To make room for Juan Gonzalez on the 25-man roster, the Cleveland Indians designated Ludwick for assignment on Tuesday. The 26-year-old outfielder is out of options, so the Indians have 10 days to trade, release or place him on waivers. He was batting .220 (9-for-41) with four homers in 19 games with Cleveland this spring.

With Coco Crisp on the disabled list with a thumb injury, Ludwick could see more time in left field. The 26-year-old outfielder will compete for time with 27-year-old Jody Gerut, who was recalled on Wednesday from Triple-A Buffalo. For the season, Ludwick is hitting .216 (8-for-37) with three homers and four RBI in 16 games.
