Johjima, the first Japanese catcher in the major leagues, has hit safely in all 11 interleague games and leads the majors with seven interleague home runs. He's batting .468 (22-for-47) with seven homers and 18 RBIs as the Mariners have rescued their season with their performance in interleague play.

Johjima homered in the second inning to start a five-run rally in Seattle's 10-8 win over the Los Angeles Angels Tuesday. With his solo homer off John Lackey, the Mariners' catcher has hit a home run in each of his first two games in North America. The Japanese veteran signed with the Mariners over the offseason.

Johjima will become the first Japanese catcher to play in the U.S. after signing a $16.5 million, three-year deal with Seattle on Tuesday. Johjima hit .309 with 24 homers and 57 RBIs in 116 games for the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks last season and made the All-Star team. He is regarded as the best catcher in Japan and has won seven straight Gold Gloves.
