Eude Brito

6/5/2006

Brito was charged with the loss when he allowed six runs and nine hits with two walks in four innings during his first start of the season for the Phillies in an 8-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday. The left-hander entered the rotation when Jon Lieber was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin.

Brito picked up his first career win on Monday against the Braves, working six shutout innings for Philadelphia and giving up only three hits while striking out seven. It was the lefthander's third career start, all coming this season, and should solidify his spot in the Phillies' rotation through the remainder of the season.

Brito has not appeared in a game with the Phillies since being recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre nearly two weeks ago. However, according to manager Charlie Manuel, the rookie lefthander could make his major league debut on Sunday, getting the starting nod against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
