Chip Ambres

8/30/2005

After David DeJesus severely sprained the AC joint in his right shoulder Sunday, Ambres is in line to get most of the starts in center field for the Kansas City Royals. Ambres is batting .253, though with a more respectable .344 on-base percentage, in 28 games.

Ambres enjoyed a successful major league debut on Wednesday night, going 2-for-4 with a double as the Royals' left fielder in a 5-3 victory over Cleveland. Ambres could steal some at-bats from Terrence Long.

7/20/2005

On Tuesday, the Kansas City Royals acquired Ambres and Class-A hurler Juan Cedeno from Boston, in exchange for veteran infielder Tony Graffanino. Ambres will make his major league debut Wednesday, probably starting in left field against Cleveland and its lefthanded ace, C.C. Sabathia. Ambres was batting .294 with 10 home runs, 50 RBI and 19 steals for Triple-A Pawtucket when the Royals acquired him. He was a first-round pick in 1998.
