Adam Greenberg

7/29/2005

Greenberg received the medical go-ahead to return to active playing status, and will report to Double-A West Tennessee.

Greenberg is still feeling a bit woozy after taking a pitch off the back of his helmet last weekend, so the Chicago Cubs have decided to place him on the 15-day disabled list. The rookie outfielder, who was making his major league debut when he got beaned, will be replaced on the roster by veteran Ben Grieve.

Greenberg underwent a precautionary CT scan on Sunday, a day after being hit on the back of the head by a pitch in a game against the Florida Marlins. The tests revealed no significant problems, and the Cubs' rookie hopes to be available immediately after the All-Star break.

On the first major league pitch he saw - or didn't see - Greenberg was beaned in the back of his head by a Valerio de los Santos delivery. Greenberg did not lose consciousness and was able to walk off the field.

Looking to add a spark in the outfield, the Chicago Cubs have recalled Greenberg Double-A West Tenn. In 74 games with the minor league club this season, the outfielder, who takes the roster spot of the struggling Jason Dubois, was batting .278 with four home runs and 28 RBI.
