The Detroit Tigers optioned Hooper to Triple-A Toledo and recalled Justin Verlander. Verlander will be the starting pitcher in the second game of the Twins-Tigers day-night doubleheader Saturday. Hooper was 1-for-5 in six games with the Tigers this season.

On Tuesday, the Detroit Tigers optioned righthander Justin Verlander to Double-A Erie and recalled Hooper from Triple-A Toledo. After bouncing through three major league organizations in 2004, the 28-year-old infielder stands to make his major league debut with Detroit in the not-too-distant future. Hooper was batting .242 with a .317 on-base percentage in 45 games for Toledo.
