Kevin Reese

7/5/2006

Reese was sent to Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday after hitting .417 (5-for-12) with one RBI in 10 games for the Yankees. "The best thing for Kevin Reese is to play every day," Yankees manager Joe Torre said. "I liked his approach here. He did a good job. But he needs to play."

With Hideki Matsui returning to the New York outfield, the Yankees returned Reese to Triple-A Columbus Wednesday after just a few days with the major league club. The 27-year-old Reese, in his first major league stay, appeared in two games and made two plate appearances. He walked and struck out.

On Sunday, the New York Yankees optioned lefthander Sean Henn to Triple-A Columbus and recalled Reese from the same affiliate. The 27-year-old Reese, an outfielder, stepped right into the Yankees' lineup Sunday, starting in left field and batting ninth. He struck out and walked before Bernie Williams pinch-hit for him in the seventh inning of the Yankees' 5-4 come-from-behind win over the Mets.
