Justin Huber

10/16/2005

Huber sprained his Achilles tendon in an Arizona Fall League game, and the Kansas City prospect has been replaced on the Surprise Scorpions roster by Alex Gordon. Early reports suggest the injury will not jeopardize Huber's readiness to compete for a starting job with the Royals in the spring. The catcher-first baseman enjoyed a solid season in the minors, batting .326 with 23 home runs and 97 RBI in 120 games between Double-A Wichita and Triple-A Omaha.

Prior to Friday's matchup with the Los Angeles Angels, the Kansas City Royals optioned Huber to Double-A Wichita, opening a spot on the roster for first baseman Mike Sweeney, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list. Huber appeared in just five games during his short stint with the major league club, going 3-for-12 with a double, three RBI and three strikeouts.

With Mike Sweeney going on the 15-day disabled list Monday, the Kansas City Royals recalled Huber from Double-A Wichita. The 22-year-old hitting prospect, a catcher who has converted to first base, is batting .332 with nine homers and 50 RBI for Wichita.
