Rich Hill

5/21/2006

The Chicago Cubs sent Hill to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday after he gave up seven runs in four innings to the Chicago White Sox on Saturday. They recalled Michael Wuertz to take Hill's spot.

The Chicago Cubs recalled Hill Monday, most likely to start in place of Glendon Rusch on Thursday in Arizona. Rusch has struggled in the Cubs' rotation, opening the door to Hill, who is 1-0 with a 1.44 ERA in four starts for Triple-A Iowa. The 26-year-old left-hander has struck out 33 in 25 innings with Iowa, giving up just 13 hits and seven walks.

The Chicago Cubs have recalled Hill from Triple-A Iowa. The 25-year-old southpaw finishes the minor league season with a 6-1 mark and 3.60 ERA in 10 starts and a relief appearance. He was a combined 10-4 (3.45 ERA) between Double-A West Tenn and Iowa. While with the Cubs earlier in the season, Hill displayed an impressive curveball and went 0-2 with an 8.57 ERA in four starts and three relief appearances.

Hill has been optioned back to Triple-A Iowa by the Chicago Cubs after allowing 13 runs on 11 hits and six walks in his last 4.1 innings of work. The rookie lefthander, who will be replaced on the roster by John Koronka, is 0-2 with an 8.57 ERA in seven appearances with the Cubs this season, including four starts.

Hill has been recalled from Triple-A Iowa by the Chicago Cubs, filling the roster spot of the injured Kerry Wood, who is back on the 15-day disabled list with continued right shoulder problems. Hill, a lefthander, made three relief appearances with Chicago earlier this season, posting a 4.76 ERA. He will get the nod against the San Francisco Giants on Monday.

Hill was optioned to Triple-A Iowa by the Chicago Cubs, opening a spot on the roster for starter Mark Prior, who returned to the mound to face the White Sox on Sunday. Making just three relief appearances in his short stint with the major league club, Hill, a lefthander, allowed three runs on three hits in 5.2 innings of work. He struck out nine and walked three.

The Cubs need a fifth starter next Tuesday in Milwaukee, and one option is Hill, a lefthander known for his curveball who was recalled on Wednesday. Apparently Cubs brass also is considering Jerome Williams, who was acquired from San Francisco in the LaTroy Hawkins trade on May 28. Williams had struggled before the deal, but he has gone 1-1 with a 2.22 ERA in four starts for the Cubs' Triple-A Iowa affiliate since the move.

6/15/2005

Before the Cubs took a beating at the hands of the Florida Marlins Wednesday, they optioned John Koronka to Triple-A Iowa and recalled Hill from the same affiliate. The 25-year-old lefthander arrived in time to pitch an inning and allow two runs to the Marlins, who outscored the Cubs, 15-5.
