Having allowed eight runs on five walks and 10 hits, four of them home runs, in his last four appearances, Ray was optioned to the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate in Ottawa. He posted an 0-2 record with a blown save and a 9.45 ERA during that span.

Before Baltimore's victory over Houston Monday night, the Baltimore Orioles optioned southpaw reliever John Parrish to Double-A Bowie and recalled Ray from the same affiliate. The 23-year-old righthander had been a starter in the minors for three seasons before converting to relief for the current campaign. At Bowie, Ray recorded 15 saves, a 1.10 ERA and a 37-6 strikeout-walk ratio in 32.2 innings.
