Chad Orvella

9/29/2005

Orvella is done for the year with a sore shoulder. Tampa Bay's rookie reliever finishes with a 3-3 mark, one save and a 3.60 ERA in 37 appearances. He worked exactly 50 innings for the Rays after climbing from Double-A Montgomery during the first half of the season.

In Tampa Bay's revamped bullpen, Orvella, Dewon Brazelton and Doug Waechter will be working in the setup role for the Rays. The trio will pitch in key game situations, which means close games and occasional chances to pick up decisions.

6/1/2005

After Hideo Nomo and Seth McClung were throttled for 10 runs Tuesday night, in Oakland's 10-1 win over Tampa Bay, Orvella came in and recorded the final five outs without allowing a baserunner. The 24-year-old righthander struck out one in a successful major league debut.

The Tampa Bay Devil Rays have recalled Orvella, an advanced relief prospect who will move into the Rays' bullpen. The 24-year-old righthander has posted an ERA of 0.36 with nine saves in 16 appearances for Double-A Montgomery.
