Leo Nunez

9/2/2005

The Kansas City Royals recalled Nunez on Thursday. The 22-year-old rookie, who reached Kansas City in May after starting the 2005 campaign at high Class-A High Desert, was 2-2 with an 8.54 ERA in 33 relief appearances for the Royals earlier in the season.

The Kansas City Royals sent Nunez down to Double-A Wichita on Saturday. The reliever was 2-2 with an 8.54 ERA in 33 appearances for the Royals this season.

The Kansas City Royals recalled Nunez from Double-A Wichita Monday, after placing starting pitcher Brian Anderson on the 15-day disabled list with an elbow ailment. The 21-year-old Nunez was 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in three relief appearances this season with Wichita. He also made eight appearances for high Class-A High Desert.

Suddenly it's been a mad dash to the majors for Nunez, who pitched in low Class-A ball in 2004. He was a Pirates pitching prospect who was dealt to Kansas City for Benito Santiago last December. Now he's ready to step into a big league bullpen.
