Scott Baker

7/11/2006

The Twins recalled Baker from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday. The 24-year-old right-hander began the season as Minnesota's fifth starter, but was sent down on June 1 after going 2-5 with a 6.06 ERA in nine outings.

Baker, one of the Twins' top pitching prospects, is back in Minnesota after the club demoted veteran Joe Mays to the bullpen. The 23-year-old Baker was 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA in his first two major league starts and a relief appearance earlier in 2005. The righthander was 5-8 with a 3.01 ERA in 22 starts for Triple-A Rochester.

The Twins sent Baker back to Triple-A Rochester shortly after the righthanded prospect picked up his first career big league victory in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Tigers. Baker, who was called up to the parent club on Friday, went seven innings while allowing just five hits and two earned runs. He struck out five and issued just one free pass.

The Minnesota Twins plan to recall Baker, one of their top pitching prospects, to start in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader in Detroit. The 23-year-old righthander is 3-6 with a 3.01 ERA in 16 starts for Triple-A Rochester this season. He has been up on two occasions in 2005, working a scoreless inning of relief for the Twins in May, and returning for an impressive spot start against the Angels on July 5. He is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA over six innings.

The Minnesota Twins have optioned Baker back to Triple-A Rochester. The righthander, who made his major league debut in May, was called up for the second time this season to make a spot start for the ailing Brad Radke. He took the loss in the outing, but pitched well, allowing just two runs on five hits in five innings of work. He struck out five and walked two.

Baker enjoyed a solid major league debut on Tuesday, working six innings and allowing six hits, two walks and two runs in a 2-1 loss to the Angels. The top prospect probably won't be sticking with the Minnesota Twins, however, as veteran Brad Radke tested his stiff neck in a bullpen session Tuesday and was cleared to start in Kansas City on Friday.

7/4/2005

On Sunday, the Minnesota Twins recalled Baker, who will start against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Tuesday. The 23-year-old righthander, one of the top pitching prospects in the Twins' system, will be making his first major league start. He worked a scoreless inning in relief for Minnesota on May 7, during a brief stint with the big league club. Baker is 2-6 with a 3.18 ERA in 15 starts for Triple-A Rochester this season.

5/13/2005

To make room for Juan Rincon, who is returning from his 10-day suspension, Baker was sent down to Triple-A Rochester on Friday. While filling in for Rincon over the last 10 days, the promising 23-year-old pitching prospect made one appearance and worked a scoreless inning.

Baker is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in four starts for Rochester this season.

5/3/2005

Baker, a promising pitching prospect who climbed three levels to Triple-A Rochester in 2004, has been recalled by the Minnesota Twins. The 23-year-old righthander will take the roster spot vacated by Juan Rincon, who received a 10-day suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug. In 2005, Baker was 1-0 in four starts with a 1.80 ERA for Rochester.

Baker is a starting prospect, but he'll probably get his feet wet with the Twins out of the bullpen. That doesn't mean he won't get a starting assignment. Kyle Lohse left his last start with a sore shoulder, and Baker could step in if the veteran has to miss a start.
