Speier underwent surgery Wednesday for a torn labrum in his right shoulder. The injury could sideline the Rockies' right-hander for the season.

Speier was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs to make room for catcher Todd Greene, who was activated from the 60-day disabled list on Tuesday. Speier appeared in three games during his most recent stint with the Rockies, throwing 5.2 scoreless innings and giving up only two hits. Overall for the season he is 1-1 with a 5.54 ERA in 13 appearances.

Speier has been recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs by the Colorado Rockies, supplying the club with some help in the bullpen. The 26-year-old righthander began the 2005 campaign in the Rockies' bullpen, but was demoted after going 1-1 with a 9.82 ERA in 10 relief appearances.

The Colorado Rockies have optioned Speier to Triple-A Colorado Springs to give him some time to work on his command. The 25-year-old righthander, who made his major league debut earlier this month, has struggled in 10 relief appearances, going 1-1 with a 9.82 ERA and one blown save.

To fill the void on the roster, the Rockies activated outfielder Dustan Mohr from the 15-day disabled list.
