With Tim Redding and Woody Williams both on the disabled list, Stauffer will be the Padres' No. 5 starter. Stauffer won his major league debut on May 11, giving up two runs in six innings of a 7-2 victory over Cincinnati.

Stauffer is scheduled to make his major league debut when he takes the hill for the Padres against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday. The righthander, who was the fourth overall pick in the 2003 Draft, was recalled from Triple-A Portland on Monday to replace the injured Tim Redding on the roster and in the starting rotation.

Stauffer started at three different minor league levels last season, going a combined 11-5 with a 2.89 ERA. He struck out 113 and walked 48 in 168 innings of work.
