Delmon Young

5/9/2006

His major league debut in 2006 may be delayed after Young was suspended for 50 games without pay for throwing a bat that hit a replacement umpire in the chest. The Triple-A International League announced the penalty Tuesday, and it will be retroactive to April 27 -- the day after Young tossed his bat in a Triple-A game while playing for Durham. The 20-year-old outfielder also has agreed to perform at least 50 hours of community service.

The Tampa Tribune is reporting that Young, arguably the best prospect in the game, has been optioned to Triple-A Durham by the Devil Rays. The Rays wanted their right fielder of the future to get more daily at-bats in preparation for the season.
