Rivera has been recalled by Seattle for a second time this month to be the Mariners' backup catcher. But Seattle manager Mike Hargrove said the 21-year-old Rivera, who was hitting .292 with two homers and 11 RBI for Double-A San Antonio, would make his first major league start Tuesday night against Toronto.

With catcher Wiki Gonzalez going on the disabled list for a hamstring injury, the Seattle Mariners recalled Rivera from Double-A San Antonio. He was batting .273 (27-for-99) with six doubles, two home runs and seven RBI in 26 games for San Antonio.

Rivera will assume backup duties behind starting catcher Miguel Olivo.
