Terry Tiffee

6/6/2005

With the Minnesota Twins needing more versatility for an infield riddled by injuries, the club optioned Tiffee to Triple-A Rochester Sunday to make room for Glenn Williams, who was recalled from Rochester. Tiffee muffed a routine play at first base against the Yankees over the weekend, and he's stuck in a 3-for-33 skid. He returns to Rochester with a .194 average, a homer and seven RBI in 24 games with the Twins.

Tiffee is back following a demotion to Triple-A Rochester two days ago. The 26-year-old corner infielder has returned to Minnesota with second baseman Nick Punto going on the disabled list with a hamstring injury. Tiffee begins his third stint with the Twins with a .203 average (12-for-59), four doubles, a homer and seven RBI in 22 games.

In the midst of a 2-for-25 slide that doesn't include a single extra-base hit, run or RBI, Tiffee was optioned to Triple-A Rochester by the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. In two stints with the Twins this season, Tiffee is 12-for-59 (.203) with four doubles, a homer and seven RBI in 22 games.

The Minnesota Twins recalled Tiffee Wednesday. The 26-year-old Tiffee, who can play first and third base, was batting .267 in 60 at-bats for Triple-A Rochester, with three homers and 15 RBI. During an eight-game stay with the Twins earlier in 2005, when Justin Morneau was out with a concussion, Tiffee hit .280 in 25 at-bats with three doubles, one home run and six RBI.

In two stints with the Twins, Tiffee has shown he can hit and deliver in the clutch. He should get some playing time with Minnesota.

After Minnesota's come-from-behind, extra-inning win over Kansas City on Thursday, the Twins optioned Tiffee to Triple-A Rochester to make room for the return of Justin Morneau. Once again Tiffee was productive for the Twins, batting .280 with three doubles, a homer, six RBI and a .520 slugging mark in eight games.
