8/7/2006

Izturis left Sunday's game with a tight right hamstring. Manager Mike Scioscia said after the game that Izturis could be available Monday if needed, but would likely get the day off.

Izturis was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday because of a strained left hamstring. The Angels' infielder was hurt on a steal attempt in the second inning Sunday in a 4-3 victory at Oakland. Izturis is hitting .333 with eight runs scored in 12 games.

Izturis should get most of the starts for the Angels after the team put starting shortstop Orlando Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with an elbow ailment. Izturis has been playing regularly while Cabrera has been nursing the injury over the last two weeks, and he's batted .419 (18-for-43) with five doubles and eight RBI in 11 games since June 20.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have placed Izturis on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left knee, retroactive to Tuesday. The younger brother of Dodgers shortstop Cesar Izturis, Macier has four hits in 20 at-bats (.200) with five runs scored, two triples and a stolen base in 14 games.

The Angels are expected to recall a minor leaguer before they face New York at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night.
