Roman Colon

9/21/2005

Colon left Saturday's start against the Angels during the first inning because of biceps tendinitis, and the Detroit righthander is likely to miss his Friday start against Seattle. He left his last outing after facing only three batters. Jason Grilli or Sean Douglass would step in for Colon on Friday.

After Atlanta defeated Pittsburgh on Friday night, the Braves placed reliever Jay Powell on the 15-day disabled list with a serious elbow injury and replaced him on the roster with Colon. The 25-year-old righthander was 1-1 with a 1.93 ERA in three starts for Triple-A Richmond. Colon has spent much of the season with the Braves, going 1-5 with a 5.28 ERA in 19 relief appearances and four starts.

Colon has been optioned to Triple-A Richmond by the Atlanta Braves, opening a spot on the roster for third baseman Chipper Jones, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list prior to Monday's meeting with the San Francisco Giants. In 23 appearances with the Braves this season, including four starts, the righthander was 1-5 with a 5.28 ERA.

On Saturday, the Atlanta Braves demoted top hitting prospect Andy Marte to Triple-A Richmond and recalled Colon to make his first major league start for Atlanta that evening. The 25-year-old righthander had spent the entire season in Atlanta's bullpen until his demotion to Double-A Mississippi on June 12. He posted an 0-3 record and 8.50 ERA in 18 relief appearances for Atlanta.
