Marte, one of the top hitting prospects in the high minors the last two seasons, has been optioned to Triple-A Buffalo by the Cleveland Indians. Marte was traded from Atlanta to Boston to Cleveland this offseason in deals involving Edgar Renteria and Coco Crisp, but he won't start the season in Cleveland with third baseman Aaron Boone batting .452 in 12 spring games.

Marte was traded to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for shortstop Edgar Renteria. The 22-year-old third baseman hit .140 with four RBI in 24 games making his MLB debut in 2005.

As part of their roster expansion, the Atlanta Braves have recalled Marte from Triple-A Richmond. The rookie third baseman has appeared in 16 games with the Braves this season, going 7-for-44 with two doubles, three RBI and eight strikeouts.

Marte was sent down to Triple-A Richmond on Saturday. The infielder was hitting just .159 in 16 games with Atlanta.

Marte was recalled to the Braves from their Triple-A Richmond affiliate, where he was hitting .283-11-40 in 64 games, with a .379 on-base percentage and .504 slugging.

The Braves have optioned Marte to Triple-A Richmond on Saturday and recalled righthanded pitcher Roman Colon to give the Braves a 13-man pitching staff. Marte was originally added to the roster when star third baseman Chipper Jones went on the disabled list, but after hitting only .200 playing behind Wilson Betemit, the team decided to let Marte get more development time in Richmond.

The Atlanta Braves have recalled Marte from Triple-A Richmond, filling the roster spot of fellow third baseman Chipper Jones, who will be sidelined indefinitely with a right foot injury. Marte was batting .276 with nine home runs and 35 RBI for the minor league club this season.
