7/6/2006

Encarnacion was activated from the disabled list by Cincinnati on Wednesday. He had been on the DL with an ankle injury since June 9. The third baseman is batting .270 with six home runs and 36 RBIs in 53 games for Cincinnati this season, his second in the major leagues.

Encarnacion was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Reds due to a sprained left ankle. The Reds called up shortstop Ray Olmedo to take his spot on the roster.

Encarnacion was a late scratch before the start of Cincinnati's loss to Pittsburgh Sunday. The Reds' rookie third baseman reported to the park with a stiff right shoulder.

The rookie third baseman played errorless ball in his first 17 games with Cincinnati this season. Encarnacion was charged with his first major league error in the Reds' win over San Diego on Sunday. Then he committed three errors in a 12-2 loss to Atlanta on Tuesday. The last Reds third baseman to make three errors in one game was Willie Greene on April 9, 1996, against the Mets.

The Cincinnati Reds promoted Encarnacion from Triple-A Louisville on Saturday.

Opening a spot on the roster for infielder Anderson Machado, who is returning from major knee surgery, the Cincinnati Reds have optioned Encarnacion back to Triple-A Louisville. The 22-year-old third baseman made his major league debut last month and went 4-for-18 with a double and six strikeouts in 10 games with the Reds.

Encarnacion has been recalled from Triple-A Louisville by the Cincinnati Reds, taking the place of injured outfielder Kenny Kelly. The 22-year-old third baseman, who was batting .292 with 12 home runs and 46 RBI in 69 games with the minor league club, should make his major league debut in this weekend's series against the Cleveland Indians.
