Kevin Gregg

5/24/2005

After a solid rookie season in 2004, Gregg has struggled with the Angels this spring. He's given up multiple runs in three of his last four relief appearances, and the Angels optioned him to Triple-A Salt Lake after Monday's 4-0 win over the Chicago White Sox. For the season, Gregg is 1-1 with a 7.77 ERA in 10 games for the Angels.

With Kelvim Escobar on the 15-day disabled list with a minor arm problem, Gregg will step into the Angels' starting rotation for the time being. The righthander, who was 5-2 with a 4.21 ERA and one save in 55 relief appearances last season, is scheduled to take the mound against the Kansas City Royals on Saturday.

Escobar is expected to miss just one or two starts, so Gregg's stay in the rotation likely will be a short one.
