J.J. Putz

5/4/2006

Seattle manager Mike Hargrove said he will go with a closer-by-committee after Eddie Guardado blew his third save in his last six outings Wednesday night. Putz is a candidate for ninth-inning duties. He is 1-0 with two saves, a 2.30 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings this season. He has allowed one run in his last 13 appearances -- a span of 14 innings in which he has fanned 19.
