Jhonny Peralta

6/25/2006

Peralta went 2-for-4 on Saturday in a 4-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds and is hitting .485 (16-for-33) with six doubles, two homers and six RBIs over his last nine games.

Peralta and the Cleveland Indians came to terms on a five-year, $13 million contract Friday. The deal comes on the heels of a breakout 2005 season in which the 23-year-old shortstop batted .292 with 24 home runs and 78 RBIs. He also scored 82 runs in 141 games and set the franchise record for homers by a shortstop.

Peralta agreed to a one-year contract Thursday with the Cleveland Indians. The 23-year-old shortstop hit .292 with 24 home runs and 78 RBIs in 141 games last season, his first full season in the league.

Peralta had three hits, including a two-run homer, as the Indians downed the Texas Rangers, 9-4, Thursday afternoon.

8/17/2005

Peralta continued his hot hitting this summer with two more homers. The Indians' shortstop went 2-for-4 with home runs in the first and eighth innings against Texas.

8/10/2005

Peralta had at least two hits for a fourth straight day in Cleveland's 13-7 come-from-behind win over Kansas City on Tuesday. In fact, after going 2-for-6 with a three-run bomb that capped the Indians' 11-run, ninth-inning explosion, the young shortstop has multiple hits in seven of his last 11 contests. In that 11-game span, Peralta is 18-for-47 (.383) with seven doubles, two homers and 12 RBI.

7/26/2005

Peralta homered for the third time in the last five games, a span over which he has hit .467 (7-for-15) with seven RBI. For the month of July, he is hitting .360-6-15 in 22 games, with a .422 on-base percentage and .667 slugging.

7/19/2005

Peralta was a perfect 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI in Cleveland's rain-shortened 5-2 victory over Kansas City on Monday. The 23-year-old shortstop has been hitting well lately, going 32-for-87 (.368) with eight doubles, three homers, 12 RBI and 13 runs scored in his last 23 games. He's now a .299 hitter with a .529 slugging mark in 74 games for the Indians.

5/18/2005

After Cleveland was shut out by Minnesota on May 5, Peralta was batting .204 (11-for-54) in 20 games, with just five runs scored and four RBI. In 10 games since then, the Cleveland shortstop has hit safely in nine contests, batting .371 (12-for-35) with five home runs and eight RBI.
