The Seattle Mariners recalled Ojeda Monday and optioned Wiki Gonzalez to Triple-A Tacoma. Ojeda, a catcher acquired from San Diego on July 31, has been recalled for a first look by Seattle coaches. Ojeda has batted .193 in 57 at-bats with Triple-A Tacoma since the trade, though he has three home runs. He was a .137 hitter (10-for-73) with the Padres this season.

Following Sunday's trade from San Diego to Seattle, Ojeda was sent to Triple-A Tacoma. The 30-year-old backstop has spent most of the season with the Padres, batting .137 (10-for-73) with six runs scored and six RBI in 43 games. He is 11-for-57 (.193) in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League, where he will be playing with Tacoma instead of Portland.

Along with minor league pitcher Nate Mateo, Ojeda was traded to the Seattle Mariners in return for Miguel Olivo.

Ojeda has been optioned to Triple-A Portland by the San Diego Padres, opening a spot on the roster for starting catcher Ramon Hernandez, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list in time for Thursday's matchup with the Houston Astros. In 43 games this season, Ojeda is batting just .137 with six RBI and one stolen base.
