Chris Spurling

Spurling was recalled by the Tigers from Triple-A Toledo after pitcher Mike Maroth was placed on the 15-day disabled list with left elbow irritation. This is Spruling's second stint with the Tigers this season.

With Detroit closer Troy Percival going on the 15-day disabled list with an arm injury on Monday, the Tigers have recalled Spurling from Triple-A Toledo. The 27-year-old righthander joins the Tigers after appearing in 12 games with the Mud Hens, posting a 2-1 record with one save and a 4.12 ERA.

Spurling joins the Tigers' pen just 14 months after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He probably won't be a key late-inning reliever, but it's remarkable he's reached Detroit so soon after having his elbow rebuilt.
