D.J. Carrasco

12/7/2005

Carrasco, who plans to pursue a career in Japan, has been released by the Kansas City Royals. The 28-year-old right-hander appeared in 21 games with the Royals last season, making 20 starts. In those contests, he posted a 6-8 record, 4.79 ERA and one complete game.

Carrasco won't make his scheduled start against Detroit Saturday because of an ailing right shoulder. The Kansas City starter will return home from Detroit to be examined. Jimmy Gobble will start in place of Carrasco, who is 5-8 with a 4.84 ERA in 20 starts for the Royals this season.

Carrasco was a late scratch from his scheduled start against Detroit Friday night when he felt tightness in his throwing shoulder while playing catch before the game. Jose Lima gave up three runs in six innings after making the emergency start in Carrasco's place.

The Kansas City Royals have recalled Carrasco from Triple-A Omaha, and the 28-year-old righthander will start against Tampa Bay on Friday night. He was 3-2 with a 2.28 ERA in 11 appearances, including three starts, for Omaha.

In 2003 and 2004 for the Royals, Carrasco posted a 4.82 ERA and two saves in 80 games, which include two starts in 2003.
