Derek Thompson

6/25/2005

The Dodgers' rotation has become quite crowded lately, with Elmer Dessens coming off the disabled list and D.J. Houlton stepping out of the bullpen to start. Thompson, who has been bothered by a tender elbow of late, was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday. The 24-year-old southpaw, who posted a 3.50 ERA without a decision in four games (three starts) for the Dodgers, will start for Las Vegas on Monday.

Bothered by a tender left elbow, Thompson has been scratched from his scheduled start on Saturday against the Chicago White Sox. The 24-year-old southpaw, who has battled similar elbow flareups dating back to spring training, will be replaced by Elmer Dessens on Saturday. In three starts with the Dodgers, Thompson has posted a 4.20 ERA without getting a decision.

Thompson was called up from the Dodgers' Double-A club in Jacksonville, and made his major league debut yesterday. Starting on the mound against the Diamondbacks, he went five innings, allowing two hits and two runs, while walking four and striking out four. He left with a 4-2 lead but came away without a decision when the D-Backs won 5-4 in the ninth.
