After a week on the Colorado roster, Machado has been designated for assignment.

Machado was added to the Colorado Rockies' 25-man roster on Saturday after passing a team physical. Machado had been claimed off waivers from Cincinnati on Wednesday, but because he had offseason knee surgery, the infielder had to pass a physical before officially being added to the roster.

The Colorado Rockies have claimed Machado off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds. The infielder recently was activated from the disabled list after missing six months while recovering from major knee surgery. He is hitless with one strikeout in two at-bats this season.

Machado was forced to undergo major knee surgery after he was injured while playing winter baseball in Venezuela late last December. Following more than six months of rehabilitation, the infielder has been activated from the 15-day disabled list by the Cincinnati Reds. Edwin Encarnacion was optioned to the minor leagues to open a spot on the roster.
