Josh Hancock

1/13/2006

Hancock has been designated for assignment by the Cincinnati Reds, opening a spot on the roster for veteran reliever Grant Balfour. The righthander was limited to 11 relief appearances with Cincinnati last season, but he pitched well in those outings, going 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA and 0.86 WHIP.

After battling a groin injury for more than two months, Hancock has been assigned to Triple-A Louisville by the Cincinnati Reds to being a minor league rehab assignment. The righthander, who will take the mound against Charlotte on Tuesday, was slated to possibly land a spot in the Reds' starting rotation out of spring training, but the injury problems were a major setback to his chances.
