To make room for Mark Bellhorn, who was signed by New York this week, the Yankees optioned Escalona to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday. Escalona was 3-for-12 (.250) with a double and two RBI in seven games for New York.

Before Monday's game with the Chicago White Sox, the New York recalled Escalona to provide more backup support for the left side of the infield. To make room for Escalona, the Yankees optioned Andy Phillips to Triple-A Columbus. Escalona was batting .274 with seven home runs and 42 RBI in 85 games at Columbus.
