Jerome Williams

4/23/2006

The Cubs sent Williams to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday following a disappointing beginning to 2006. The right-hander lasted only 1 1-3 innings against the Cardinals on Friday and is 0-2 with a 7.30 ERA this season. He has made two starts and three relief appearances.

Williams had another rough outing at Wrigley Field, allowing seven runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings in a 9-4 loss to the Cincinnati Reds Monday night. In three home starts since joining the Cubs in June, the righthander is 0-3 with a 6.11 ERA. He's surrendered four home runs in 17.2 innings in those games.

With Mark Prior and Kerry Wood returning to action over the past week, the Chicago Cubs were forced to make some moves to create spots in their starting rotation. Williams was a candidate to shift to a relief role, but instead, he will continue to handle the team's No. 5 starter duties for the time being. Glendon Rusch and Sergio Mitre now will pitch in relief.

Except for a pair of solo home runs by Bill Hall, Williams was able to silence the Brewers' bats in his debut with the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. The 23-year-old righthander, who was acquired from the San Francisco Giants last month, allowed just three hits over seven solid innings, striking out six and walking four.

The Chicago Cubs have recalled Williams from Triple-A Iowa. The 23-year-old righthander will face the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night, after going 1-1 with a 2.22 ERA in four starts for the Cubs' Triple-A affiliate since being acquired in a late-May trade with the San Francisco Giants.

6/20/2005

In need of a fifth starter, the Chicago Cubs will recall Williams from Triple-A Iowa in time for him to take the mound against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday. The righthander has gone 1-1 with a 2.22 ERA in four starts for the club's Triple-A affiliate since being acquired in a trade with the San Francisco Giants late last month. Williams has made four appearances at the major league level this season, including three starts, going 0-2 with a 6.48 ERA.

6/17/2005

The Cubs need a fifth starter next Tuesday in Milwaukee, and one option is Rich Hill, a lefthander known for his curveball who was recalled on Wednesday. Apparently Cubs brass now is considering Williams, who was acquired from San Francisco in the LaTroy Hawkins trade on May 28. Williams had struggled before the deal, but he has gone 1-1 with a 2.22 ERA in four starts for the Cubs' Triple-A Iowa affiliate since the move.

5/28/2005

The San Francisco Giants have traded Williams and fellow righthander David Aardsma to the Chicago Cubs for veteran reliever LaTroy Hawkins. Williams won 10 games for the Giants as a rookie in 2004, but his year ended with elbow surgery.

4/25/2005

Not needing a fifth starter until late next week, the San Francisco Giants have optioned Williams to Triple-A Fresno. The righthander has struggled in his four appearances this season, going 0-2 with a 6.48 ERA. Veteran reliever Al Levine will fill the void on the roster.

Williams likely will get a start or two in the minors before rejoining the Giants' rotation. He has made 21 or more starts with San Francisco each of the past two seasons.
