Hank Blalock

7/17/2005

Blalock matched a career high for hits in a game, going 4-for-5 in Saturday's win over the Oakland A's. The Rangers' third baseman finished the day with a pair of doubles, a solo home run and four runs scored, boosting his season batting average to .287.

Blalock hasn't committed an error in 45 games this season, and the Rangers' third baseman has gone 53 straight games since he last was charged with one. In the Rangers' 7-3 win over the Royals Wednesday, he matched Buddy Bell's club record of 53 straight errorless games at third base, which was set in 1979.

Blalock has hit safely in five of his last six games for Texas. The Rangers' third baseman is hitting .400 (10-for-25) in those six games, with two doubles, a homer and five runs scored.

After starting the season 1-for-13 (.077) and absorbing a 3-for-29 slump (.103) in the middle of April, Blalock now is at .273 for the season. He has nine doubles, five homers and 16 RBI in 32 games.

After going 0-for-6 against the Yankees on Saturday, Blalock was in a 2-for-23 funk (.087) over his last five games. The Rangers' third baseman found himself on the Rangers' bench on Sunday, as Mark DeRosa was given a start at third in the series finale against New York.
