Jimmy Journell

12/2/2005

Journell agreed to a minor league contract with the Reds on Thursday. The 28-year-old righthander made 12 relief appearances for St. Louis in 2003 and 2005. He has a 0-1 career record with a 7.42 ERA.

Journell, who was recalled last month to fill in for the ailing Cal Eldred, is on his way back to Triple-A Memphis to work on his control problems. In five appearances with the Cardinals this season, the righthander has gone 0-1, allowing five earned runs on six hits in 4.1 innings. He's struck out five and walked five.

The Cardinals have recalled Brad Thompson to fill the void in the bullpen.
