In pursuit of other options for center field, the Florida Marlins claimed Borchard off waivers from the Seattle Mariners Wednesday. The former White Sox prospect, who was dealt by Chicago to Seattle on March 20, was 2-for-9 (.222) in six games with the Mariners before being designated for assignment on April 23.

Borchard was designated for assignment by Seattle on Sunday, giving the Mariners 10 days to trade, release or assign the 27-year-old center fielder to the minors. He came over in a trade from the Chicago White Sox on March 20, but was only 2-for-9 after playing just six of Seattle's first 19 games.
