Ken Harvey

6/22/2005

Harvey, who is nursing a recurring back injury, has been transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL by the Kansas City Royals. Although a timetable for his return has not been set, Harvey will not be eligible to be activated until at least mid-July. He is batting .222 with one home run and five RBI in 12 games this season.

Harvey left for Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday, prepared to start his minor league rehab assignment for a back injury. The Royals' DH-first baseman has been on the disabled list retroactive to May 19, and he will be re-evaluated after playing six games for Omaha.

An MRI exam has determined that there is nothing structurally or seriously wrong with Harvey's ailing back. The Royals' DH-first baseman is expected to resume baseball activities soon. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list last weekend, retroactive to May 19.

5/22/2005

The Kansas City Royals put Harvey on the 15-day disabled list Sunday because of recurring back problems. The DH-first baseman has been bothered by back pain all season, and the Royals decided to give him some down time to see if that doesn't clear up the discomfort. Harvey is batting .222 (10-for-45) with three doubles, a homer and five RBI since he was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on April 28.

Harvey has recovered enough from his back ailment to return to the Kansas City lineup. Serving as the Royals' designated hitter, Harvey was 1-for-4 with a double in Wednesday' loss to Baltimore. He sat for eight games, except for a pinch-hitting appearance on May 13. Since he was recalled on April 28, Harvey is batting .222 (10-for-45) with three doubles, a homer and five RBI. He also has struck out 13 times.

Harvey has been bothered by stiffness in his back over the last week, and the ailment has kept him out of the Royals' starting lineup. There's no talk of putting the DH-first baseman on the disabled list, so consider him day-to-day.

With Mike Sweeney battling an oblique injury, the Royals have been light on first basemen. Tony Graffanino started at first base on both Saturday and Sunday for the Royals.

4/30/2005

Harvey hit his first career grand slam during Kansas City's win over the Cleveland Indians on Saturday. After going 3-for-5 Saturday, the Royals' DH-first baseman is 6-for-14 (.429) with a double and homer since being recalled by the Royals a few days ago.

4/28/2005

Almost a week after the Royals sent down Calvin Pickering, the DH-first baseman who aced him out of a major league job this spring, Harvey was recalled by Kansas City on Thursday. He is in the lineup at first base against Minnesota Thursday afternoon.

Harvey was hitting a team-best .375 (27-for-72) for Triple-A Omaha. The righthanded hitter also generated three homers and a team-leading 14 RBI in 18 games. To make room for Harvey in Kansas City, the Royals optioned pitcher Shawn Kemp to their Triple-A affiliate.
