The Cleveland Indians had a roster spot open, which was intended for Travis Hafner, but they have recalled Vazquez instead because Hafner continues to struggle with concussion symptoms. Vazquez, acquired from Boston in early July in a trade for Alex Cora, batted .197 in 61 at-bats for Boston. Since the trade, Vazquez has hit .214 (18-for-84) with 13 runs scored in 21 games for Triple-A Buffalo.

Just a few days after optioning him to the minors, the Boston Red Sox have traded Vazquez to the Cleveland Indians in exchange for fellow infielder Alex Cora. In 27 games with Boston this season, Vazquez batted just .197 with two doubles and four RBI. He struck out 14 times in 61 at-bats.

The Red Sox optioned Vazquez to Triple-A Pawtucket on Sunday. Coming off the bench, the 28-year-old infielder was 12-for-61 (.197) with two doubles and six runs scored in 27 games.
